The 5th UCLG Congress, the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders, was held in Bogotá, Colombia, from 12 to 15 October 2016. Around 4000 participants from more than 110 countries gathered under the theme “Local Voices for a Better World”.
There was a wide range of activities and the program offered over 110 sessions with 285 speakers. One of them was a workshop on Localizing SDGs where the DeLoG network was represented by Ute Boettcher, GIZ. Together with representatives from ODI, UNDP, UN-Habitat and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, she made a point for the needed acknowledgment of the local level in achieving the SDGs and discussed measures to enhance a multi-stakeholder approach.
In addition, Mpho Parks Tau, President of the South African Association of Local Governments and Councilor of Johannesburg (South Africa) and former Mayor of Johannesburg has been elected President of the Organisation.
In general, UCLG members and partners contributed during the Congress to produce the Bogotá Commitment and Action Agenda and to the Recommendations of the Second World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments.
