The 13th Annual Meeting of the DeLoG-Network is coming up soon! The event will be hosted by the International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG International) and will be taking place from 23-25 May, 2018, in The Hague, Netherlands.
This year’s meeting has a special focus on decentralisation and local governance in fragile contexts and on migration and forced displacement. Dr. Sanya K.F. Wilson, Mayor of Koboko Municipal Council (Uganda) and National Vice Chairman of the Urban Authority Association will give a key note speech and provide inputs from the local level. Furthermore, Mr. Jelte van Wieren , Director of the Department of Stabilisation and Humanitarian Affairs of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs will together with two of his colleagues present the ministry’s approach to increasing legitimate stability in conflict-affected states.
Apart from the specific focus, the Annual Meeting will deal with the following topics:
Urban and territorial governance
An input will be provided by Dr. Nuno F. da Cruz, LSE Cities, Assistant Professorial Research Fellow and Coordinator of the New Urban Governance Project.
Fiscal Decentralisation/ Local financing
This session will feature Khady Dia Sarr, Programme Director for the Dakar Municipal Finance Programme, and the study ‘Subnational governments around the world: structure and finance’ will be presented by Isabelle Chatry from the Directorate for Public Governance and Territorial Development at the OECD.
Localising the SDGs
The thematic session on Localising the SDGs will start with an input by Paula Lucci, Senior Research Fellow at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), on SDG implementation in the city of Bristol and possibilities of extrapolation to other contexts. It will be followed by a presentation on localising the SDGs by Pytrik Oosterhof, a Sustainable Development Consultant.
All thematic sessions will be followed by working groups in which participants of the Annual Meeting will have the opportunity to delve into the topics in greater depth, and to work out elements for DeLoG’s work plan for the upcoming year. Two DeLoG sessions will offer the opportunity to review the work of the secretariat and to steer its activities for the upcoming year.
