In Profile: Dr Carl Wright, Secretary-General Emeritus CLGF

In his position as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), Carl Wright has been a regular attendee at DeLoG events. Carl was the founding Secretary-General of CLGF (1995-2016) and is now Secretary-General Emeritus and ex officio Board member. CLGF has as its members local government associations and individual councils/cities, as well as national ministries responsible for decentralisation, in some 50 Commonwealth counties. Carl Wright has extensive experience in intergovernmental relations and sustainable development; democratic governance; human rights, public sector reform and sub-national finances, having worked with the UN, EU, Commonwealth and many other international organisations, most recently as a member of the Global Task of Local and Regional Governments on the Post-2015 Agenda and Habitat III.

In this interview, Carl gives us insights into his ambition to found CLGF, his personal highlights and challenges working as SG for CLGF, CLGF strategic partnership with DeLoG as well as an assessment of the recently adopted New Urban Agenda.
